Your Scout will be responsible for picking their merit badges and doing any prerequisites. Parents will be responsible for all necessary paperwork and fees.
Ockanickon Summer Camp Details
Your Scout will need to successfully pass the BSA required swim test to be classified as a "swimmer" for camp. The swim test will be held at the Clark Community Pool on the date outlined on our calendar (weather permitting and potentially subject to change based upon lifeguard availability).
If your Scout does not intend to swim, then a swim test is not necessary and they will be considered a "non-swimmer" during camp. Please note, however, that non-swimmers cannot participate in other merit badges (such as swimming and watercrafts) or other water-related activities (such as the polar bear plunge). If your Scout can swim, but cannot successfully pass all aspects of the swim test, he can try again during summer camp or be classified as a "beginner swimmer", which will allow him to participate in some water-related activities, but will not allow him to take certain merit badges. Swim tests can be taken or retaken at summer camp if needed. This link gives you details about the BSA swim test.
NYLT is an amazing opportunity for an older Scout to hone their leadership, communication and Scouting skills. Troop 145 covers the cost of two Scouts per year to attend NYLT each year. Dates, locations, paperwork and details can be found in the below link. Please check our calendar for NYLT dates. We strongly encourage our Scouts to attend NYLT before they age out of Scouting.
Please note that there is a mandatory prep meeting that a Scout and their parent will have to attend leading up to NYLT. More information about the date, time and location of this meeting will be made available on the Patriots Path NYLT link above.
The below link is a document with key items that you will need to pack for an NYLT week-long adventure.
Troop 145 will participate in a High Adventure Trip to Summit Bechtel in June of 2023. This will be an amazing experience for our older Scouts. Our fees and fundraising do not cover this very expensive trip, so additional fundraising and/or out of pocket expenses will be necessary for anyone who attends. This trip is limited to Scouts who are 13 and older at the time of departure. The below link has details about the specific trip that we will take. More details will follow about this trip. Also, see our calendar for dates and don't miss our mandatory parents meeting where we will discuss this.
