Leadership is extremely important in Scouting, and it is a big focus in BSA Troop 145. We have an election every six months so that we can get several boys to gain leadership experience. Leadership roles are either elected or appointed positions. Leadership experience is necessary to fulfill certain rank requirements especially Star, Life and Eagle. The following requirements are necessary for leadership roles:
The role of Patrol Leader is an elected position. Each Patrol must have an elected patrol leader. The Assistant Patrol Leader position for each patrol is appointed by the Patrol Leader. There are no age or rank requirements to be Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader.
* For Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders, you must be elected into the position.
** A Scout can be in a certain leadership position for 2 consecutive terms. He must vacate the position for one term before trying again for that same position.
Requirements for all other leadership roles:
A Scout must be First Class Rank or higher to hold any leadership positions other than Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader
A Scout must agree to do the extra work needed to fulfill the role
A Scout must be present at all/most meetings
A Scout must “apply” for the position to be considered for the role
